Meet The Staff - Tamarack Tennis Camp

Meet the Staff

In selecting the staff, balance is maintained between experienced counselors with strong teaching skills, and younger instructors who were once Tamarack campers themselves.

Genesis Wren Miller (Wren) started as a camper at Tamarack when she was ten years old. She was so enamored with the strong connections she made her first year that she attended Tamarack for the next four summers. She then became a dishwasher/CIT, a counselor, a head counselor, and finally, Co-Director of Tamarack with her husband, Chuck, in 2005.

Wren is third-generation Tamarack, grew up on the property, and has always felt rooted in the beauty and peace of Easton Valley. She and Chuck have been running Tamarack since 2005 and have raised their two beautiful boys in the same house she was raised in—up in the woods near the camp.

She’s traveled the world with family to watch her brother Bode Miller compete in World Cup and Olympic ski racing.

She is incredibly grateful to her grandparents, Jack and Peg, for founding Tamarack and to her mother for carrying on the spirit through a time of transition, ultimately providing her the opportunity to have Tamarack Tennis Camp remain such a centerpiece in her life.

Wren attended Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) for high school and then earned a BA in Sociology/Justice Studies from Montana State University (MSU). She spent an extended semester abroad in New Zealand, followed by three years at Vermont Law School, where she earned her JD and Masters in Environmental Law and Policy.

Chuck Weed

Chuck Weed fell in love with Tamarack Tennis Camp when he was ten years old and first visited as a day camper. For the next six years after that, Chuck attended the camp every summer before becoming a CIT and then a counselor. He’s now Co-Director of Tamarack and has served in this position with his wife, Wren, for over fifteen years. Chuck and Wren pour their hearts and souls into this spectacular spot and could not imagine spending summers anywhere else.

For Chuck, nothing is more special than introducing kids to the magic of Tamarack, to the sport of tennis, and to the experiences they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives. Chuck has always been an athlete. He grew up playing soccer, hockey, lacrosse, and tennis.

Chuck is also a carpenter and building houses during the “off-season” for a local general contractor. He does most of the fixing and repair work, remodeling, and maintenance around Tamarack.

He grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he attended Shady Hill School and then Nobles. He continued his education at Connecticut College and graduated in 2003.

I’m an incoming freshman at Santa Clara University in California. I love playing tennis, skiing, hiking, being outside and traveling.

Madeline Viola Joyce

This will be my second summer at Tamarack, and I am so excited to be back surrounded by incredible people in the beautiful White Mountains. Growing up, my grandmother taught me to play tennis and always emphasized the importance of learning a life-long sport. In high school I began playing tennis competitively and was on my high school’s varsity team for 4 years, 3 of which we were Class A Maine State Champions. My other hobbies include hiking, playing basketball, and going to the beach. I am currently a rising junior at the University of Miami majoring in Political Science and International Studies with minors in Spanish and Sustainable Business.

Asher Lockwood

Hello my name is Asher Lockwood, I am a rising Senior at Yarmouth High School in Maine. I play soccer, tennis and ski race. I enjoy hanging out with my dogs, friends and family. I started to play tennis in middle school, and play competitively at Yarmouth High School, while winning a State Championship my freshman year. S.O. Archie McDonough! I love being at Tamarack, while being in nature and having the real “family” bonds that are formed there. I am excited to return as a counselor this year.

Gracyn Lord

Hi! My name is Gracyn Lord and I am going into my senior year at Cohasset High School in Massachusetts. I have been playing tennis since I could hold a racket, and have been attending Tamarack since I was about 12 years old. I also play soccer and ski race. A good portion of my year is spent in New Hampshire, whether I am skiing or playing tennis in beautiful Easton!

Hallie Mabrey

Tamarack has been arguably the most important part of my life since it was introduced to me as a thirteen year old camper. I fell in love with the magic of Tamarack and instantly felt at home. I am a second-generation Tamaracker, following in my mom’s footsteps. I have worked as a CIT, Junior Counselor, Counselor, and Head Counselor for many summers. I have been an athlete my whole life playing a variety of sports. As a child, I was lucky enough to play tennis year round, competing in USTA tournaments and eventually competing on my college tennis team at number one singles and doubles. I have participated in countless lessons, clinics, matches, practices and tournaments, but to this day, my favorite tennis memories are all from the time I spent on the red clay courts at Tamarack.

Working with kids of all ages has always been a passion of mine. I graduated from Union College with a B.A. in Art History and went on to earn a M.Ed. in Elementary Education and a Reading and Writing Specialist License from Lesley University. When I began my teaching career as an adult, I still managed to find ways to make Tamarack a part of my summers, helping in the office, in the kitchen and wherever I was needed.

In the off-season, I teach kindergarten, enjoy skiing with my husband and playing with my dog as much as I can. I will forever be a beginner knitter, love to exercise and enjoy working in my garden. My summers at Tamarack are always the highlight of my year!

Emma Mansourian

Hi my name is Emma Mansourian.  I live in Darien, CT and will be a sophomore at Tulane University in the fall. I have played tennis since I can remember and was on the varsity team in high school. This is my favorite part of the year and always look forward to going to Tamarack, this will be my 5th year! Some fun facts about me is I am left handed, I am addicted to black raspberry ice cream, and I also swam competitively from 2nd grade throughout high school. I can’t wait for this summer:)

Archie McDonough

Hi, my name is Archie McDonough, this year I will be a senior at Lake Highland, Florida. I started playing tennis when I was 10, and I lived in England. Being from England, my idol is naturally the Queen. I moved to Yarmouth, Maine, when I was 13, and my Freshman year of Highschool me and the lads (including Asher Lockwood) won the State Championship. I enjoy playing and watching soccer, and I also like traveling with my family. I usually just play tennis competitively, but over the past few years, Tamarack has made the sport, and life in general, so much more fun.

Iris Miller-White

Hi, I’m Iris Miller-White. This is my tenth year at Tamarack and second year on staff, and a New Hampshire native. I played tennis all though high school and am looking towards the possibility of playing for St. Lawrence University. I love hiking and just spending time outdoors. Tamarack has introduced me to some of my life long friends and I’m so excited to spend another summer at camp!

Ricky Ollerman

“Ricky’s a local high school senior who likes getting lost in the woods. If he were a fruit, he’d be a mango, and his favorite band is Weezer. Ricky loves rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, playing guitar, and painting with Bob Ross. As far as tennis goes, he’s spent way too much of his childhood hitting green balls back and forth at Tamarack, and is happy he gets to show small people how to do it (and why you’d want to).”

Adam Patterson

My name is Adam Patterson, I am 18 years old, and I live in Watertown, Massachusetts. I have been playing tennis and attending Tamarack since I was 11 years old. My favorite things to do at Tamarack are Davis Cup matches, swimming, and evening activities. I have always loved sports, and have played a variety throughout high school. This year I played basketball and football, and in the past I have also played soccer and ice hockey.

Henry Russell

Hi guys, my name is Henry Russell. I’m from Guilford, CT and will be attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland in the fall for rowing. I started playing tennis when I was very young. My biggest rival is still my dad! I came to Tamarack six years ago and fell in love with it my first year and have been coming back ever since. I’m really into fishing and I’m a huge Patriots fan!
