Daily Tennis Instruction

Tennis Court

The daily instruction designed for beginner and intermediate campers, includes the fundamentals of tennis, emphasizes correct form, consistent steady play, and most importantly, learning to be your own teacher.

Instruction for advanced players includes concentration on stroke production, strategy, and conditioning.

The Tamarack learning method, developed by founder Jack Kenney, is based on repition, simple telegram reminders, and innovative games. This method helps campers grasp a difficult sport, and attain a level of play that is both satisfying and fun.

Campers receive four hours of instruction daily, which includes both private and group lessons. Each camper also has the benefit of two hours “free tennis time” in which they might request extra lessons, play competitively, or just practice hitting.

All campers participate in outside matches and tournaments with surrounding camps, as well as in-camp tournaments. In addition, campers compete on two tennis ladders and play in a three day “Davis Cup”: team tournament, the culminating tennis event of each session.

Activities & Events

Hiking

Tamarack is nested at the base of beautiful Mount Kinsman with access to some of the most beautiful hiking in New England through the White Mountains right out our back door.

Mountain Biking

Tamarack has an incredible network of fantastic single track mountain biking accessible right from camp, as well as one of the best and most fun flow trails in all of New England.

Swimming

Tamarack campers enjoy daily swim trips to Echo Lake and a variety of different swimming locations. Many are located on the Ham Branch River that flows right through the valley.

Climbing Wall

Our climbing wall is state of the art and gets "wows" by everyone who steps inside. Great for beginners to advanced climbers it is a wonderful daily activity for kids.

Evening Activities

Often the highlight of the day is our evening activities, ranging from capture the flag, to hide and go seek style games, or theatrical evenings in the dining hall full of laughs and fun!

Sports & Games

Pick up basketball, short court futsal, a casual game of catch, and of course our legendary 18 hole frisbee golf course. There is no shortage of fantastic activities to pick from!

On campus activities readily available for campers to enjoy include soccer, which builds many important athletic skills like footwork and stamina. They can also jump on Tamarack’s in-ground trampoline, play frisbee, ping-pong, pool, or any other game from the imagination of your child. There is also a three sided climbing wall, which campers can enjoy as a supervised activity.

Off campus, campers can enjoy a variety of stunning swimming spots. There are many cool refreshing swimming holes in nearby rivers, or Echo Lake located in Franconia Notch.  Hiking and mountain biking are also very popular off-court activities as the camp is literally surrounded by woodland and the majestic White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Tamarack has also developed a number of classic activities over the years. Usually each evening, campers will experience one of these activities such as: The Obstacle Course, Two Ball Soccer, Lip Syncing Competition (All Synced Up), Christmas in July, and The Blob. Mega Day, the mother of all activities, involves an all camp carnival, an auction, and a huge banquet dinner, which are all set to a particular theme.

Friday night is Town Night, when the whole camp takes a trip to neighboring Littleton. On Saturday nights campers always look forward to the dance.
